It was a rainy early morning in the middle of July 2023, and I'd just deployed the website for Blinds. Blinds is a versatile dark mode plugin that I'd developed some months earlier. Here I was, tired physically, mentally, almost feeling defeated. I had developed the website with React, but learnt in a hard way that React has very poor performance with Search Engines. The alternative was to rewrite the whole thing with NextJS, which was popular for static generation, and server-side rendering.

After rewriting the site with NextJS, and with all the huddles that came with it, deploying the site became another problem to overcome. At the time, serverless was all the rave and I wanted to take full advantage of it. While trying to build and deploy the newly coded site, I encountered a lot of problems, for example, I had to change "I've" to "I have", simply because NextJS will not build successfuly until I either got rid of the apostrophe, or change it to it's HTML encoded equivalent. I also planned to create a blog with NextJS after the deployment, but with what I was seeing, there has to be a better way. There just has to be.

I toured the web looking for a software that:

• Is versatile and opensource.
• Is intuitive, user friendly, and doesn't require lots of technical background.
• Easily compiles locally to static files.
• Makes use of popular opensource technology (PHP), that can be gotten and installed easily on every computer.

I tried using WordPress with plugins that swear they can render posts and pages to static HTML, but quickly found out that I was wasting my time. So I decided I might as well build what I want by myself.

And so on the 28^th of July 2023, I committed my first line of code for Nidavel (initially named Blasta) on Github.
